This compressor blow down valve (unloader valve) is designed to release the trapped air pressure between the compressor head and receiver check valve by venting to atmosphere via the solenoid exhaust (top port) at the moment the compressor stops, thus reducing the startup load when the compressor restarts. When the compressor restarts and is up to speed, the solenoid control valve is energised closing the top exhaust port (above coil) so the flow will travel across the solenoid valve (inlet to outlet) to the check / non-return valve and on into the compressed air reservoir.
Note this compact 3 way valve is full flow from inlet to outlet with virtually no restriction to the flow of compressed air, unlike many other manufacturers and further improves performance, energy efficiency and compressor maintenance costs.
