Description
Nass Magnet SmartConnector IO-Link DIN Form A – 611-202-0507
Upgrade a standard DIN Form A solenoid valve into an intelligent monitored valve with the Nass Magnet SmartConnector 611-202-0507.
Designed for solenoid valves using the DIN EN 175301-803 Form A interface, the SmartConnector combines 24V DC valve control with IO-Link communication, cycle counting, current and resistance monitoring, temperature measurement, PWM energy reduction and configurable diagnostic warnings.
Instead of simply switching a solenoid coil ON and OFF, the SmartConnector provides real-time information about the electrical condition and operating history of the connected valve system. This allows maintenance teams and control systems to identify developing electrical or thermal problems, monitor valve usage and schedule maintenance before an unexpected failure causes machine downtime.
Turn a Standard Solenoid Valve into a Smart Valve
The Nass Magnet SmartConnector provides a practical way to add Industry 4.0 condition monitoring to compatible conventional solenoid valves.
Rather than replacing an existing valve with a dedicated smart valve assembly, the SmartConnector fits the standard DIN EN 175301-803 Form A electrical interface and adds digital valve control and diagnostic capability.
Connected valves can then be remotely controlled and monitored using IO-Link, with diagnostic information from the connector, solenoid coil and valve system available to higher-level automation and monitoring systems.
This makes it particularly attractive for OEM machinery, automated production lines and preventative maintenance programmes where valve reliability and machine uptime are important.
Predictive & Preventive Maintenance Monitoring
The SmartConnector continuously provides operating information that can be used to identify abnormal conditions and monitor component life.
Diagnostic parameters include:
✓ Supply voltage
✓ Output current
✓ Switch-on resistance
✓ Solenoid power consumption
✓ Connector temperature
✓ Valve switch-on time
✓ Switching cycle count
✓ Overcurrent condition
✓ Overtemperature condition
✓ Open-circuit condition
✓ Short-circuit condition
The detailed SmartConnector data also confirms dedicated process flags for overcurrent, overheat, open circuit, short circuit and valve state.
Dual Switching Cycle Counters
Two integrated switching counters allow valve operating life to be monitored.
Counter 1 – Lifetime Counter
Records every output switch-on event and cannot be reset or adjusted, providing a permanent record of accumulated switching operations.
Counter 2 – Service Counter
Also records switching operations but can be reset, allowing the counter to be restarted when a solenoid coil or valve is replaced.
Individual warning limits can be assigned to both counters, allowing a maintenance warning to be generated when a predetermined number of operations has been reached.
This makes it possible to move from fixed maintenance intervals towards usage-based valve maintenance.
Coil Current & Resistance Diagnostics
The SmartConnector monitors the electrical characteristics of the connected solenoid coil.
Switch-on resistance is calculated from the supply voltage and attraction current during the pull-in transient and is updated each time the output is switched on.
Output current is also measured and available as diagnostic data. A maximum-current threshold can be configured so that a warning is generated if the actual current exceeds the specified limit.
These measurements can help identify abnormal electrical behaviour within the connected coil or valve system before complete loss of operation.
Temperature Monitoring
An integrated temperature sensor monitors the temperature of the SmartConnector.
A configurable maximum temperature threshold allows an automatic warning to be generated if the permitted value is exceeded. The device also records the number of overheating incidents.
This provides useful additional condition information for solenoid valves operating continuously, in warm environments or where coil heating is a concern.
Energy-Saving PWM Control
The SmartConnector incorporates Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) to reduce the holding power required by the connected solenoid coil.
During initial valve operation, full power is applied to ensure reliable pull-in. After the configurable attraction period, the connector switches to PWM operation and reduces output current according to the selected duty cycle.
The switch-on period can be configured up to 2000ms, after which PWM power reduction can be applied. PWM operation is also available without active IO-
Link communication.
Benefits can include:
✓ Reduced coil power consumption
✓ Reduced continuous coil heating
✓ Lower control-system energy demand
✓ Potentially improved coil operating conditions
Two Operating Modes
The SmartConnector supports two distinct methods of operation.
IO-Link Mode
Provides valve operation, configuration, process monitoring and diagnostic communication through an IO-Link master.
Standard Mode
Allows the connector to operate in two-wire mode using preset PWM and/or switch-on and switch-off timer functions without requiring continuous IO-Link communication.
This allows the SmartConnector to provide intelligent valve-control functions even where full IO-Link integration is not required.

Configurable RGB Status LED
An integrated multicolour RGB LED provides highly visible local status indication.
Different colours can be assigned to:
✓ Valve OFF
✓ Valve ON
✓ Warning / Alert
Available colours are:
Off, Blue, Green, Cyan, Red, Magenta, Yellow and White.
The warning LED can also be configured to flash.
FindMe Maintenance Function
For installations containing multiple valves, the FindMe function makes it easier for maintenance engineers to physically identify the required SmartConnector.
When activated, the LED cycles through its available colours, clearly identifying the connector requiring attention.
This is particularly useful on large valve manifolds, automated machinery and production systems containing multiple similar solenoid valves.
Configuration Memory
SmartConnector parameters are stored internally and can be retrieved and transferred to a replacement connector.
This reduces the need to manually reconfigure a replacement unit and can help minimise commissioning time following maintenance or component replacement.
Warning & Diagnostic Functions
Configurable monitoring allows automatic warnings to be generated for conditions including:
✓ Cycle counter limit reached
✓ Overcurrent
✓ Overtemperature
✓ Open circuit
✓ Short circuit
✓ Voltage condition
✓ Current threshold exceeded
This allows the valve connection to become an active part of the machine's diagnostic and maintenance strategy rather than simply providing electrical power to the solenoid coil.

Why Choose the Nass Magnet SmartConnector?
A conventional solenoid valve provides very little information to the control system: it is normally simply commanded ON or OFF.
The Nass Magnet SmartConnector changes that without requiring a purpose-designed smart valve.
By adding IO-Link communication, switching-cycle counters, current and resistance monitoring, temperature measurement, configurable warning limits, PWM power reduction and local RGB status indication to a compatible DIN Form A solenoid valve, it provides considerably greater visibility of valve and coil operating condition.
For OEMs and industrial users, this offers a practical route towards predictive and preventive valve maintenance, reduced unplanned downtime and Industry 4.0 valve monitoring while retaining familiar DIN Form A valve technology.
