Description
1" Pilot Pressure Limiting Valve 5–120 Bar – RSG 780-P
The RSG Type 780-P is an externally controlled pressure limiting valve designed to protect pumps, pipelines and industrial liquid systems against excessive pressure by diverting excess flow through a bypass circuit.
The valve combines manual stepless pressure adjustment with pneumatic pilot control and an electrically operated pilot valve. Its pressure-balanced construction allows the process pressure to be substantially higher than the available control-air pressure.
The manufacturer specifies a DN15 flow path, 5–120 Bar pressure range, G1 BSP connection and 6 m³/h maximum flow.
Valve Function & Control
Function: Pressure Limiting Valve
Operation: Externally Controlled
Adjustment: Manual Stepless
Control: Electrical Pilot Valve
Installation: Bypass Circuit
Pressure Range: 5–120 Bar
When system pressure reaches the selected limit, the valve opens the bypass path to relieve excess flow and prevent pressure continuing to rise.
The electrical pilot provides the closing control function, while the required pressure limit is manually adjusted. The manufacturer's type coding specifically identifies P as the pilot valve for the closing function.
Pressure-Balanced Bypass Design
The 780-P is intended for installation in a bypass pressure limiting circuit, rather than as a conventional inline pressure reducing valve.
Its pressure-balanced operating principle enables the valve to regulate process pressures substantially higher than the pneumatic control pressure.
This makes the 780-P particularly suitable for:
✓ Pump Protection
✓ Pipeline Protection
✓ High-Pressure Liquid Systems
✓ Bypass Pressure Limiting
✓ Industrial Process Systems
Pressure & Flow Performance
Operating Pressure: 5–120 Bar
Nominal Diameter: DN15
Flow Capacity: 6 m³/h
Process Connection: G1 BSP
Control Air: Maximum 8 Bar
Manual Stepless Pressure Adjustment
The required pressure limit can be continuously adjusted manually, rather than being restricted to predetermined pressure settings.
This makes the 780-P suitable where operators require adjustable overpressure protection but do not require the remote 0–10V pressure-setting capability of the 780-E.
The 780 family therefore provides two useful control approaches:
780-P – Manual pressure adjustment with electrical pilot control
780-E – Electronic 0–10V pressure adjustment
Galvanised Steel Construction
Body: Galvanised Steel
Seals: FKM
Connection: G1 BSP
Nominal Diameter: DN15
The robust steel construction is intended for demanding industrial liquid systems.
Process-media compatibility should be confirmed against both the galvanised steel body and FKM sealing before selection.
Liquid Media & Filtration
Media: Compatible Liquids
Maximum Contamination: 50 Microns
The RSG 780-P can operate with liquids containing contamination up to 50µ.
The pneumatic control supply requires:
Control Air: Maximum 8 Bar
Control Air Filtration: 40 Microns
Temperature
Media Temperature: 0°C to +60°C
Ambient Temperature: 0°C to +50°C
These limits apply to the standard galvanised steel and FKM configuration.
Pilot Valve & Electrical Specification
The integrated electrical pilot valve allows the pressure-limiting function to be controlled as part of an automated machine or process system.
Standard Voltages:
✓ 24V DC
✓ 230V AC 50Hz
✓ Special Voltages On Request
Voltage Tolerance: ±10%
24V DC Power: 6 Watts
230V AC Power: 9.2VA
Duty Cycle: 100% ED

For AC operation, the electrical connector incorporates an integrated rectifier.
Pressure Control Characteristics
The control-pressure diagram on page 2 shows the relationship between pneumatic control pressure and media pressure across the 5–120 Bar operating range.
The same page also shows the minimum residual-pressure characteristic. Residual pressure increases with bypass flow, reaching approximately 6.5 Bar at 6 m³/h.
Noise Level
Noise Emission: Approximately 70 dBA
This is measured at:
Residual Pressure: 6.5 Bar
Flow: 6 m³/h
These test conditions are specified directly beneath the pressure characteristic graphs on page 2.
Mounting Position
The manufacturer recommends installing the valve with the:
Control plate preferably upright
This is the preferred mounting orientation for the standard 780-P assembly.

Why Choose the RSG 780-P?
The RSG 780-P combines manual stepless pressure adjustment with an electrically controlled pilot valve, providing adjustable pressure protection together with electrical machine-control capability.
Its pressure-balanced bypass design enables a 5–120 Bar process pressure range using control air of no more than 8 Bar, while the DN15 flow path provides up to 6 m³/h bypass flow.
With a G1 BSP connection, galvanised steel construction, FKM seals, 24V DC or 230V AC electrical control and IP65 protection, the 780-P provides a practical solution for automated pump and high-pressure system protection.
