The Shako SPU520S Series is a high-quality 5/2 way single-solenoid pneumatic directional control valve designed for reliable operation in industrial compressed air systems.
Manufactured with a corrosion-resistant SUS316 stainless steel body, this internally piloted valve provides dependable directional control for double-acting pneumatic cylinders, actuators and automated machinery.
Available with 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" BSP threaded connections, the SPU520S combines a robust stainless steel valve body with electrically operated spool switching and mechanical spring return. Its durable construction makes it particularly suitable for industrial environments where conventional aluminium pneumatic valves may be unsuitable.
The SPU520S Series offers continuous-duty electrical operation, IP65 protection and optional explosion-protected coil configurations for specialist industrial applications.
5/2 Way Single-Solenoid Operation
The SPU520S is a five-port, two-position directional control valve designed to alternate compressed air between two actuator connections.
Power ON → The solenoid operates the internal pilot mechanism, shifting the valve spool and directing compressed air to one actuator port while exhausting the other.
Power OFF → The mechanical spring returns the spool to its normal position, reversing the supply and exhaust connections.
This single-solenoid spring-return arrangement is suitable for controlling double-acting pneumatic cylinders and actuators that must return to a defined switching position when electrical power is removed.
The valve uses an internal pilot supply and requires sufficient compressed air pressure for correct operation.
Port Sizes & Pneumatic Connections
The SPU520S Series is available in three nominal port sizes:
- 1/4" BSP – SPU520-02S
- 3/8" BSP – SPU520-03S
- 1/2" BSP – SPU520-04S
BSP threaded connections are supplied as standard, with optional NPT threads available for installations requiring alternative pipe connections.
The manufacturer's connection diagram identifies the pressure supply port, two actuator ports and two exhaust ports.
For the 1/2" model, the exhaust connections are 3/8", rather than 1/2".

The precise ATEX/IECEx certification, permitted hazardous-area zones, temperature class and electrical characteristics depend on the selected coil and complete valve configuration and must be confirmed before ordering.
Installation & Pneumatic Control
The SPU520S is designed for connection to industrial compressed air systems and uses an internally piloted spool mechanism.
Ensure the pneumatic supply pressure remains within the specified operating range and that the valve's supply, actuator and exhaust connections are correctly identified.
The single-solenoid spring-return design provides a defined spool position when the electrical supply is removed, although the resulting actuator movement depends on the complete pneumatic circuit.
