1/8"–1/4" Normally Open Stainless Solenoid Valve – JAX


The JAX Series is a compact 2/2 way normally open stainless steel solenoid valve designed for air, water, vacuum, light oils, gases and compatible process fluids. Its direct-acting design operates from zero pressure differential, making it suitable for low-pressure and vacuum systems as well as conventional pressurised applications.

Available with 1/8" or 1/4" connections, the JAX provides a choice of 1.6mm or 2.4mm orifices with operating pressures up to 10 Bar AC or 7 Bar DC, depending on orifice size. When electrical power is removed, the valve automatically returns to its normally open position, providing a useful fail-open / power-to-close function.

The valve features an AISI 303 stainless steel body, stainless steel internals and FKM (Viton) seals as standard, with NBR and EPDM seal options for alternative media and temperature requirements. The manufacturer's specification confirms direct operation, zero minimum pressure and the individual AC/DC pressure ratings.

Valve Function & Operation

The JAX is open when the solenoid is de-energised. Applying electrical power energises the solenoid operator and closes the valve.
If electrical power is removed, the valve automatically returns to its open position, making it suitable for applications requiring fail-open operation.
Because the JAX is direct acting, it does not rely on inlet pressure or differential pressure to operate.

The supplied manufacturer's sheet lists BSPT as the standard port and NPT as an option.

The manufacturer specifies a maximum overall pressure of 10 Bar and confirms the fast switching time and unrestricted mounting orientation.

The stainless construction makes the JAX suitable for a wider range of compatible fluids and gases than a conventional brass normally open valve.

Seal & Temperature Options

The manufacturer's table gives the following maximum media temperatures:
NBR → +50°C
FKM / Viton → +80°C
EPDM → +120°C
Ambient temperature: -10°C to +50°C
This is worth changing from a blanket “120°C max” claim: +120°C applies specifically to the EPDM configuration, rather than the standard FKM valve.

The JAX combines normally open operation with direct-acting zero-pressure performance, making it particularly useful where a valve must automatically open when electrical power is removed.
Unlike pressure-assisted normally open valves, the JAX can operate correctly at 0 Bar differential pressure and can therefore be used for vacuum, low-pressure and closed-loop applications.
Its compact stainless steel construction, fast switching and pressure capability up to 10 Bar make it a useful alternative where a brass normally open solenoid valve is unsuitable.
