1½" Latching Irrigation Solenoid Valve – PN22514AL
The PN22514AL is a 1½" latching / bi-stable irrigation solenoid valve designed for high-flow, battery-powered and low-energy water control systems. It requires only a short DC electrical pulse to change position and then remains open or closed without continuous electrical power.
Featuring a large 40mm flow orifice with 417.5 L/min water flow, the PN22514AL provides high flow capacity for agricultural irrigation, sprinkler systems, landscaping and greenhouse watering applications. The heavy-duty glass-reinforced UV-resistant PA66 body provides excellent corrosion resistance for outdoor water systems.
Anti-water hammer operation, manual override and an external bleed screw with removable metering pin provide reliable operation and straightforward maintenance.

The pressure-assisted diaphragm design uses the water pressure differential to operate the large 40mm main flow passage.
Unlike the conventional PN22514A, the PN22514AL does not require the solenoid to remain continuously energised while the valve is open.
Latching / Bi-Stable Operation
The valve changes position using a short DC electrical pulse:
Pulse in one polarity → Opens
The valve then remains open without power.
Reverse polarity pulse → Closes
The valve then remains closed without power.
This makes the PN22514AL particularly attractive for battery-powered, solar-powered and remote irrigation systems, especially where continuous electrical power is unavailable or undesirable.

Polarity Reversal Control
Opening and closing are controlled by reversing the polarity of the electrical pulse.
The irrigation controller must therefore be capable of supplying the required short DC pulse and reversing the positive and negative connections for the opposite switching direction.
Because the coil consumes power only during switching, the PN22514AL can dramatically reduce electrical consumption compared with a continuously energised irrigation solenoid valve.
Anti-Water Hammer Design
The PN22514AL incorporates an anti-water hammer design to help control hydraulic shock as the large water flow is switched.
This is particularly useful with the 40mm orifice and high flow capacity, where rapid valve closure could otherwise generate substantial pressure surges within irrigation pipework.
Manual Override & External Bleed
A manual override provides local valve operation for commissioning, testing and maintenance.
The external bleed screw incorporates a removable metering pin, allowing the pilot passage to be cleaned without completely dismantling the valve.
This is particularly useful in agricultural systems where sediment or contamination may be present in the water supply.

PN22514A → Normally Closed
Conventional AC/DC version requiring continuous electrical power while the valve is energised open.
PN22514AL → Latching / Bi-Stable
Requires only a short polarity-reversing DC pulse to change state and then uses no continuous holding power.
For remote, solar or battery-operated irrigation systems, that's a significant advantage.
