Septic Treatment System Using Compressed Air Aeration
While many UK septic systems use electric mechanical aerators, some models explicitly use diffused compressed-air bio-aeration:
Klargester (Kingspan Environmental)
Models such as the Xeros/EnviroSmart (formerly Solido/Lilac) and Solido LA units optionally use a blower+diffuser setup to aerate the biological treatment tank.
Kingspan Water & Energy
The BioZap & BioWall packaged sewage treatment plants integrate blower-driven aeration systems similar to compressed air designs.
Biorock (Clearwater UK)
Using fine-bubble diffused aeration, they include an air pump (blower) in their system to supply oxygen to the treatment chamber.
Envirotank
Offers compact packaged systems with blower-based aeration, essentially compressed air fed through diffuser membranes.
Choosing Your System
1. Airflow Demand
Choose a pump that meets the oxygen needs of your aerobic biomass. A domestic system (~2–4 L/min) may only need the ETA 60, whereas larger designs (e.g. Biorock or Kingspan BioZap) require ≥ 8–15 L/min pumps like the ET80+ or Enviro150.
2. Duty Cycle & Power
Pumps like the Hi‑Blow HP 80 are designed for continuous duty (24/7), while smaller units may not be rated for extended use.
3. Installation & Support
Brands like Klargester and Kingspan provide full system packages with matched blowers, control panels, and warranties. When retrofitting, ensure your chosen pump and diffuser are compatible with the tank’s sizing and permits.
Kingspan Solenoid Valves and Timers.
The Kingspan Bioficient and Delta septic tank units originally utilised the Shako PU22003 solenoid valve and programmable timer to control air flow.
