The Shako SY520 Series is a compact 1/4" NAMUR 5/2 way pneumatic air pilot valve designed for direct mounting onto pneumatic actuators. Available with either single or double pneumatic pilot operation, the SY520 provides reliable directional control without requiring an electrical solenoid coil.
Operated entirely by external pilot air, the SY520 is particularly suitable for industrial pneumatic systems where electrical operation is unnecessary or undesirable. Shako specifically identifies the valve as suitable for flammable working environments and highlights air actuation for accurate response.

Single Pneumatic Pilot – SY520-02S
The SY520-02S uses a single external pneumatic pilot with spring return.
Pilot air applied → The spool shifts to its operated position, directing compressed air to the corresponding actuator port.
Pilot air removed → The internal spring returns the valve to its normal position.
This configuration is particularly suitable for pneumatic actuator systems requiring a defined return position when the pilot signal is removed.
Double Pneumatic Pilot – SY520-02D
The SY520-02D uses two external pneumatic pilot signals to control the spool position.
Applying pilot pressure to one pilot port shifts the valve in one direction. Applying pilot pressure to the opposite pilot port shifts the valve to the alternate position.
The double-pilot arrangement provides pneumatic bistable control and is useful where the valve needs to maintain its last commanded position until the opposite pneumatic signal is applied.
NAMUR Actuator Mounting
The SY520 is designed for direct NAMUR mounting onto compatible pneumatic actuators, eliminating much of the external tubing normally required between a separate directional control valve and actuator.
The dimensional drawing on the Shako data sheet shows the compact 30mm-wide body together with the actuator interface and 1/8" pilot connections. The single-pilot SY520-02S is approximately 105mm long, while the double-pilot SY520-02D is approximately 120mm long.
Why Use an Air Pilot Valve?
Unlike a conventional solenoid-operated NAMUR valve, the SY520 requires no electrical coil or electrical supply at the valve.
