Description
6–10mm / 1/4"–3/8" Refrigerant Solenoid Valve – RSG 216-DN5-LR
The RSG 216-DN5-LR is a compact 2/2 way refrigerant solenoid valve with integral copper solder tubes, designed for refrigeration, heat pump and cooling systems where the valve is brazed or soldered directly into the refrigerant pipework.
The valve uses a pressure-assisted piston design with a 5mm orifice, providing operation from only 0.05 Bar differential pressure up to 30 Bar, with a burst pressure of 180 Bar.
Normally closed operation is standard, with a normally open configuration also available.
Valve Function & Operation
Function: 2/2 Way Normally Closed
Option: Normally Open
Operation: Pressure Assisted Piston
Nominal Size: DN5
Orifice: 5mm
Minimum Differential Pressure: 0.05 Bar
Maximum Operating Pressure: 30 Bar
Burst Pressure: 180 Bar
The low 0.05 Bar minimum differential makes the DN5-LR suitable for refrigeration circuits where only a small pressure difference may be available across the valve.
Copper Solder Tube Connections
Unlike the threaded 216 versions, the DN5-LR is supplied with integral copper tube connections for installation directly into refrigerant pipework.
Available Tube Sizes:
✓ 6mm
✓ 10mm
✓ 1/4"
✓ 3/8"
The copper tubes are furnace welded into the brass valve body using silver solder at approximately 680–700°C.
This factory-manufactured joint between the copper tube and brass body provides a robust connection while allowing the installer to connect the valve directly into copper refrigeration pipework.
Orifice & Flow Capacity
Orifice: 5mm
Flow capacity depends upon the selected tube size:
Kv 0.3 or 0.4 m³/h
The Kv values are based on water with a pressure differential of 1 Bar.
The DN5-LR is therefore intended for smaller refrigeration lines requiring compact dimensions and controlled refrigerant flow rather than the substantially higher capacities of the DN12 and DN25 versions.
Refrigerant Compatibility
The 216-DN5-LR is suitable for compatible refrigerant gases and liquids including:
✓ R23
✓ R134A
✓ R407C
✓ R410A
✓ R507
✓ R513
✓ R1234yf
✓ R1224yd
✓ R1234ze
✓ R449A
✓ R469A
Other gases, oils and fluids below 40 cSt may also be suitable where compatible with the materials of construction.
The valve must not be operated dry without media.
Construction & Materials
Body: Brass
Optional Body: AISI 303 Stainless Steel
Internals: Stainless Steel
Tube Connections: Copper
Seal: EPDM
Seat: PTFE
The standard EPDM and PTFE configuration is designed around refrigeration service. Compatibility should nevertheless be checked against the exact refrigerant, lubricant and operating conditions.
Wide Temperature Range
Media Temperature:
-40°C to +150°C
Ambient Temperature:
-40°C to +70°C
This wide temperature capability makes the DN5-LR suitable for refrigeration systems experiencing substantial temperature variation between different operating conditions and sections of the circuit.
Pressure Assisted Piston Design
The pressure-assisted construction enables the compact solenoid operator to control the refrigerant through the 5mm valve orifice.
A minimum differential pressure of 0.05 Bar is required for correct operation.
Operating Pressure: 0.05–30 Bar
Burst Pressure: 180 Bar
This combination provides a wide working-pressure range while retaining a compact refrigeration-valve package.
Low Power System 10/30 Coil
The DN5-LR uses the compact System 10/30 solenoid operator.
DC Power: 6 Watts
AC Power: 8VA
Insulation: Class F
Duty Cycle: 100%
Connection: DIN43650A
Protection: IP65 with Connector
The low electrical consumption is particularly useful in refrigeration and heat-pump equipment where multiple valves may remain energised for extended periods.
Voltage Options
Available voltages include:
✓ 12V DC
✓ 24V DC
✓ 110V DC
✓ 200V DC
✓ 24V AC
✓ 110V AC
✓ 230V AC
The wide voltage selection makes the valve suitable for both OEM refrigeration equipment and replacement applications.
IP65 Electrical Protection
The System 10/30 solenoid is supplied with its DIN electrical connector.
Protection: IP65
Duty Cycle: 100%
This allows continuous energisation where required by the refrigeration control system.
Normally Open Option
The standard DN5-LR is normally closed, shutting refrigerant flow when the solenoid is de-energised.
A normally open version is also available for systems requiring the opposite fail position.
This provides greater flexibility for refrigeration control, bypass and specialist cooling circuits.
Mounting Provision
The valve incorporates M3 mounting holes, allowing the body to be mechanically supported within the refrigeration equipment.
Optional mounting brackets are also available.
Providing dedicated mechanical support can be particularly useful with copper tube installations, avoiding unnecessary loads being transferred from the valve assembly into the refrigeration pipework.

Why Choose the RSG 216-DN5-LR?
The RSG 216-DN5-LR provides a compact solution for direct installation into copper refrigeration pipework, avoiding the need for separate threaded tube adaptors.
Available with 6mm, 10mm, 1/4" or 3/8" copper solder tubes, the valve combines a 5mm orifice and Kv up to 0.4 m³/h with a wide 0.05–30 Bar operating range and 180 Bar burst pressure.
Its -40°C to +150°C media temperature range, low-power 6W DC / 8VA AC coil, IP65 protection and 100% duty rating make it well suited to compact commercial and industrial refrigeration equipment.
