DIN Form A PWM Energy Saving Connector 12–24V DC – Nass Magnet
The Nass Magnet PWM Connector is a DIN Form A EN 175301-803 energy-saving solenoid valve connector designed to reduce the continuous electrical power consumed by DC solenoid coils and significantly reduce coil operating temperature.
The connector initially supplies 100% power for approximately 150 milliseconds to ensure reliable solenoid pull-in. It then automatically switches to one of four selectable PWM holding-power levels. Nass Magnet specifies potential energy savings of up to 80% without modifying the existing valve or solenoid coil.
How the PWM Connector Works
A conventional solenoid coil normally receives full electrical power for the entire time it remains energised.
In most applications, however, the power required to hold an already-open solenoid valve is substantially lower than the initial power required to pull in the armature.
The PWM connector takes advantage of this difference:

Four Adjustable PWM Settings
Two internal jumpers provide four selectable holding-power settings:
00 – 20% Holding Power / 80% Saving
01 – 35% Holding Power / 65% Saving
10 – 50% Holding Power / 50% Saving
11 – 65% Holding Power / 35% Saving
This is an important clarification to the existing page: the percentages are best described as holding power and corresponding energy saving, rather than simply “reduction”.
Reduces Solenoid Coil Temperature
Reducing the continuous holding power also reduces the amount of electrical energy converted into heat by the solenoid coil.

Measured Energy Savings
Nass Magnet's published test results illustrate how substantial the reduction can be.
Examples shown in the manufacturer literature include:
45W Coil → 10.73W average with PWM
25W Coil → 6.09W average with PWM
8W Coil → 2.01W average with PWM
2.1W Coil → 0.61W average with PWM
These are manufacturer measurement examples rather than guaranteed consumption figures for every coil, but they demonstrate the potential savings available from PWM holding-power control.
Setting the Holding Power
The correct PWM setting depends upon the solenoid coil and the actual valve operating conditions.
For commissioning, start with a conservative holding-power setting and test the valve under its maximum expected pressure, temperature and load conditions.
The holding power can then be progressively reduced. If the valve no longer remains reliably actuated, return to the previous higher holding-power setting.
For example:
Start at 65% Holding Power
- Test at 50%
- Test at 35%
- Test at 20%
Use the lowest energy setting that provides reliable holding under all operating conditions.

The current Nass Magnet literature identifies the Form A PWM connector as part number 611-201-1321.
Important – DC Polarity
The PWM connector contains active electronics and is polarity sensitive.
The DC supply must therefore be connected with the correct positive and negative polarity.
Incorrect polarity should be avoided to prevent improper operation or possible damage to the electronics.
Integrated Coil Protection
The PWM electronics provide controlled switching of the solenoid coil and include output protection for the inductive load.
This means separate suppression components such as a VDR or TVS diode are generally unnecessary where the PWM connector itself provides the required coil suppression.

Particularly Useful for Hot Coils
Solenoid coils naturally generate heat during continuous operation. In applications where a conventional coil becomes unnecessarily hot because it is continuously supplied at full rated power, PWM holding-power control can provide a particularly effective solution.
The coil still receives full power during the critical pull-in period, but once the valve has actuated, only the power required to maintain the armature position is supplied.
This can provide a significant reduction in both electrical consumption and coil temperature.
