Description
ATEX Ex ia 3/2 Universal Solenoid Valve – Rotex P3017V01R-5
The Rotex P3017V01R-5 is a high-performance ATEX and IECEx Ex ia intrinsically safe 3/2 universal solenoid valve designed for hazardous-area applications requiring exceptionally fast response, long service life and flexible flow control.
Its universal 3-way configuration allows the valve to be piped for normally closed, normally open, diverting or mixing duties. Direct acting operation provides reliable switching from high vacuum through to 10 Bar without requiring a minimum pressure differential.
Manufactured as standard with a 316 stainless steel CF8 body and 316 stainless steel internals, the P3017V01R-5 offers bubble-tight shut-off, 9G vibration resistance, switching speeds up to 900 cycles per minute and a life expectancy exceeding 20 million cycles.
Valve Function & Operation
Function: 3/2 way universal
Operation: Direct acting
The universal three-port design provides considerable flexibility from a single valve and can be piped for:
3/2 Normally Closed – primary flow is closed in the de-energised condition.
3/2 Normally Open – primary flow remains open in the de-energised condition.
Diverting – one inlet can be switched between two alternative outlets.
Mixing – two inlet paths can be switched towards a common outlet.
As a direct acting valve, the P3017V01R-5 operates from zero pressure differential, making it suitable for vacuum as well as positive-pressure applications.
Pressure, Orifice & Flow
Operating pressure: 0 to 10 Bar
Vacuum capability: Down to 10⁻⁶ Torr
Orifice: 5mm
Water flow: 8 L/min at 1 Bar ΔP
Response ON: ≤12ms
Response OFF: ≤12ms
The combination of a 5mm orifice and extremely fast response provides excellent performance for high-speed process and instrumentation applications.
Ports & Connections
Standard connection: 1/4" BSP
Optional connection: 1/4" NPT
The NPT option allows straightforward integration into international, offshore and OEM installations using NPT pipework.
Construction & Materials
Standard body: 316 stainless steel CF8
Optional bodies: Brass or aluminium
Internals: 316 stainless steel
Shading ring: None
Standard seal: NBR
Optional seals:
FKM Viton® GLT
Fluorosilicone
Media compatibility should be confirmed against the selected sealing material and valve materials of construction.
Media Compatibility
Suitable media include:
High vacuum
Air
Water
Gases
Compatible process fluids
The valve is particularly useful where vacuum capability and rapid switching are required within an intrinsically safe control system.
High-Speed Performance
The P3017V01R-5 offers particularly impressive mechanical performance for a hazardous-area valve:
Response time: ≤12ms ON / ≤12ms OFF
Maximum cycling: 900 cycles/minute
Life expectancy: >20 million cycles
Vibration resistance: Up to 9G
Shut-off: Bubble tight
Mounting: Any position
This makes it particularly suitable for demanding automated applications involving frequent or rapid switching.
ATEX & IECEx Intrinsic Safety
The solenoid operator is certified for intrinsically safe operation in hazardous gas and dust atmospheres.
Approvals: ATEX & IECEx
IECEx certificate: IECEx BAS 12.0128X – Issue 1
ATEX certificate: Baseefa12ATEX0243X – Issue 1
Gas marking:
Ex ia IIC T5 Ga
-60°C ≤ Ta ≤ +75°C
Ex ia IIC T6 Ga
-60°C ≤ Ta ≤ +60°C
Dust marking:
Ex ia IIIC T200 125°C IP67 Da
-60°C ≤ Ta ≤ +75°C
The Ga and Da equipment protection levels make this operator suitable for applications requiring a very high level of explosion protection, subject to installation in accordance with its certification.
Intrinsically Safe Electrical Parameters
Minimum operating parameters:
Voltage: 12.5V
Current: 25.5mA
Power: 0.3W
Entity parameters:
Ui: 32V DC
Ii: 230mA
Pi: 2.3W
Li: 0
Ci: 0
The associated intrinsically safe barrier or galvanic isolator must be selected to comply with these certified entity parameters and the requirements of the complete hazardous-area circuit.
Typical Applications
The Rotex P3017V01R-5 is particularly suited to hazardous-area applications involving process instrumentation, analyser systems, oil and gas equipment, petrochemical plants, chemical processing, pneumatic control circuits, high-vacuum systems, process skids, offshore installations and OEM machinery.
Its ≤12ms response and >20 million cycle life make it especially attractive for high-frequency applications where conventional hazardous-area valves may be too slow.
Why Choose the Rotex P3017V01R-5?
The major advantage of the P3017V01R-5 is the combination of Ex ia intrinsic safety, universal 3/2 operation and extremely fast direct acting performance.
One valve can provide normally closed, normally open, diverting or mixing control while operating from high vacuum to 10 Bar. Combined with a 5mm orifice, ≤12ms response, 900 cycles/minute capability, 9G vibration resistance and a life expectancy exceeding 20 million cycles, it provides an unusually capable solution for demanding hazardous-area control systems.
