Description
Kuhnway Queen MD Solenoid Valve Armature & Core Tube Assembly
Replacement armature, plunger and core tube assembly for Kuhnway Queen MD Series 2/2 way normally closed stainless steel solenoid valves.
Designed to fit the MD15, MD20, MD25, MD32, MD40 and MD50 Series, the complete assembly provides the principal internal magnetic and moving components located beneath the solenoid coil.
The assembly includes a 304 stainless steel core tube, KM-31 stainless steel plunger, SUS304 return spring, coil retaining nut and sealing O-rings, with a choice of FKM/Viton or EPDM plunger seal.
Different shading ring configurations are available for standard applications or corrosive media, including copper, no shading ring for DC operation, or silver shading ring for AC/DC applications.

The same armature assembly is designed to fit the MD Series from MD15 through MD50, making it a useful common service component across the Queen stainless steel solenoid valve range.
Complete Armature Assembly
The replacement assembly consists of:

This provides the complete internal solenoid operator assembly rather than only the moving plunger.
Plunger Seal Options
Two plunger seal materials are available:
FKM / Viton
Suitable for many oils, fuels and compatible industrial fluids where FKM chemical resistance is appropriate.
EPDM
Commonly selected for water and compatible aqueous media where EPDM provides the required chemical compatibility.
The correct seal should be selected according to the original valve specification, controlled media, concentration and operating conditions.
Shading Ring Options
The armature assembly is available with different shading ring arrangements according to voltage and application.
Copper Shading Ring – Standard
The standard configuration for normal applications.
No Shading Ring – DC Only
Available for DC voltage applications where improved corrosion resistance is required.
As a DC solenoid does not require an AC shading ring for stable operation, the ring can be omitted in this configuration.
Silver Shading Ring – Corrosive Media
Available for AC or DC voltage applications where increased corrosion resistance is required.
The silver shading ring provides an alternative to the standard copper component for applications where the controlled media could attack copper.
What Does the Shading Ring Do?
In an AC solenoid operator, the shading ring helps maintain magnetic attraction as the alternating electrical supply passes through its zero-crossing point.
This helps prevent the armature from rapidly releasing and re-attracting during each AC cycle, reducing the characteristic buzzing or chatter that could otherwise occur.
For DC operation this function is not required, which is why a no-shading-ring version can be used for DC-only corrosive-media applications.

The 16mm diameter core tube is designed for the Queen M16 solenoid coil with a 50mm coil height.
How the Armature Assembly Works
The solenoid coil fits over the stainless steel core tube.
When the coil is energised, its magnetic field acts upon the internal stainless steel plunger / armature, moving it against the return spring and operating the valve pilot mechanism.
When electrical power is removed, the SUS304 return spring returns the plunger to its normal position, allowing the normally closed valve to return to its de-energised state.
The plunger seal provides the internal sealing interface required for correct pilot operation.
Armature Assembly vs Plunger Only
This product is the complete armature / core tube assembly.
It includes the core tube, plunger, spring, retaining components, O-rings and plunger seal.
If only the moving internal plunger is damaged or worn and the existing core tube remains serviceable, your separate Queen MD replacement plunger may provide a more economical repair option.

Why Replace the Complete Armature Assembly?
Where the stainless steel MD valve body and diaphragm assembly remain serviceable, replacing the complete armature assembly can provide a cost-effective alternative to replacing the entire solenoid valve.
The assembly renews the principal components within the electromagnetic operator, including the core tube, moving plunger, return spring and associated seals.
Because the assembly fits the MD15 through MD50 range, the same basic spare can be used across multiple Queen MD stainless steel valve sizes, subject to selecting the appropriate seal and shading ring configuration.
