Description

3/8"–2" Stainless Steel Latching Solenoid Valve 20 Bar – LSAS

The CS Fluid Power LSAS Series is a heavy-duty 2/2 way latching (bi-stable) stainless steel solenoid valve designed for high-pressure water, air, steam and compatible industrial fluid control applications.

Manufactured with a 316 stainless steel valve body, stainless steel internals and PTFE seals, the LSAS combines excellent corrosion resistance with pressure-assisted operation, high flow capacity and energy-saving magnetic latching control.

Available from 3/8" to 2" BSP, the range operates from 0.5 Bar differential pressure, with air and water pressures up to 20 Bar and steam pressures up to 12 Bar.
Unlike a conventional continuously energised solenoid valve, the latching actuator requires electrical power only during switching. A short 12V DC or 24V DC pulse changes the valve position, after which the magnetic latching mechanism maintains that position without continuous electrical power.

Valve Function & Operation

Function: 2/2 way latching / bi-stable
Operation: Servo assisted / pressure assisted
Actuation: Magnetic latching
Minimum Differential Pressure: 0.5 Bar
Maximum Air / Water Pressure: 20 Bar
Maximum Steam Pressure: 12 Bar
The LSAS uses a magnetic latching actuator that requires only a short electrical pulse to change valve position.
Once switched, the valve remains in its selected position after electrical power is removed. Applying a DC pulse with the opposite polarity switches the valve back to its other position.
This considerably reduces electrical consumption and eliminates the need to keep the solenoid coil continuously energised simply to maintain valve position.
As the LSAS is pressure assisted, a minimum 0.5 Bar pressure differential is required across the valve for correct operation.

How Latching Operation Works

The LSAS uses a bi-stable magnetic solenoid operator rather than a conventional continuously energised coil.
Apply a short DC pulse with the correct polarity to switch the valve.
Once switched, the magnetic mechanism holds the valve in position without electrical power.
To change the valve back to its opposite state, apply another short pulse with the positive and negative polarity reversed.
This makes the LSAS particularly useful for applications where reduced power consumption, reduced coil heating or operation from limited electrical power is important.
Because this is a DC latching valve, switching should be described as reversing positive and negative polarity, rather than reversing live and neutral.

Ports & Connections

Available BSP Sizes:
✓ 3/8" – LSAS14
✓ 1/2" – LSAS15
✓ 3/4" – LSAS20
✓ 1" – LSAS25
✓ 1¼" – LSAS35
✓ 1½" – LSAS40
✓ 2" – LSAS50
Optional Thread: NPT

Pressure & Flow

Minimum Working Pressure: 0.5 Bar
Maximum Air / Water Pressure: 20 Bar
Maximum Steam Pressure: 12 Bar
Maximum Fluid Viscosity: 50 cSt
3/8" LSAS14 – 15mm orifice – 64.4 L/min
1/2" LSAS15 – 15mm orifice – 64.4 L/min
3/4" LSAS20 – 20mm orifice – 133 L/min
1" LSAS25 – 25mm orifice – 188.76 L/min
1¼" LSAS35 – 35mm orifice – 371.8 L/min
1½" LSAS40 – 35mm orifice – 371.8 L/min
2" LSAS50 – 50mm orifice – 686.4 L/min
The large internal orifices provide substantially higher flow capacity than miniature direct-acting latching solenoid valves.

Construction & Materials

Body: 316 Stainless Steel
Solenoid Tube: 304 Stainless Steel
Internal Parts: Stainless Steel
Seals & Gaskets: PTFE
Coil: Resin moulded
The combination of 316 stainless steel and PTFE sealing provides good corrosion and temperature resistance for demanding industrial fluid applications, including compatible aggressive and corrosive media.

Media Compatibility

Suitable for compatible:
✓ Air
✓ Compressed air
✓ Water
✓ Hot water
✓ Steam
✓ Light oils
✓ Inert gases
✓ Industrial process fluids
✓ Compatible aggressive fluids
✓ Compatible corrosive fluids
Maximum Media Viscosity: 50 cSt
Media compatibility should be confirmed against the 316 stainless steel body, stainless steel internal components and PTFE seals for the actual fluid concentration, temperature and operating conditions.

Temperature

Maximum Media Temperature: +180°C
Ambient Temperature: -30°C to +60°C
Maximum Media Viscosity: 50 cSt
Preferred Mounting: Coil upright

Coil & Electrical

Coil Type: WPG2
Power: 18 Watt
Voltage: 12V DC or 24V DC
Operation: DC pulse / magnetic latching
Switching: Reverse polarity
Electrical Connection: DIN 43650A
Coil Protection: IP68
Protection with Connector: IP67
Insulation: Class H
Although the solenoid coil itself is designed for industrial operation, the latching valve does not require continuous energisation. Electrical power is required only for the switching pulse.

Voltage Options

The LSAS latching valve is available in:
✓ 12V DC
✓ 24V DC
AC voltages are not offered for this latching configuration because valve switching requires DC polarity reversal.

Energy-Saving Latching Operation

A conventional solenoid valve normally requires its coil to remain energised continuously to maintain its actuated position.
The LSAS operates differently.
Once an electrical pulse changes the valve position, the magnetic latching mechanism holds that position without continuous electrical power.
This provides several practical benefits:
✓ Reduced electrical consumption
✓ Reduced continuous coil heating
✓ Suitable for battery systems
✓ Useful for remote installations
✓ Reduced control-panel power demand
✓ Position retained without coil power
The last point is particularly important: loss of electrical power does not automatically return a bi-stable valve to a default position. It remains magnetically latched in its last selected state.

Latching vs Conventional Solenoid Valve

Conventional SAS: Requires continuous coil power to maintain its energised position.
Latching LSAS: Requires electrical power only when changing position.
Both use a pressure-assisted valve design requiring approximately 0.5 Bar minimum differential pressure, but the LSAS provides substantially lower electrical consumption where the valve remains in one position for extended periods.

Typical Applications

✓ High-pressure water systems
✓ Steam control systems
✓ Hot water systems
✓ Compressed air installations
✓ Chemical processing
✓ Industrial process equipment
✓ Battery-powered control systems
✓ Remote process installations
✓ Energy-saving fluid control
✓ Industrial washing systems
✓ OEM machinery
✓ Automated process systems

Why Choose the LSAS Series?

The LSAS combines the high-pressure and high-flow characteristics of the stainless steel SAS valve platform with bi-stable magnetic latching operation.
Its 316 stainless steel body, PTFE sealing and stainless steel internal components make it particularly suitable for demanding industrial applications where brass valves may not provide the required corrosion resistance or media compatibility.
Air and water applications can operate at pressures up to 20 Bar, while steam applications can operate up to 12 Bar. Large internal orifices from 15mm to 50mm provide flow capacities reaching 686.4 L/min on the 2" LSAS50.
Because electrical power is required only when changing position, the LSAS is particularly useful for installations where a conventional continuously energised solenoid valve would consume unnecessary power or generate unnecessary coil heat while remaining in the same position for extended periods.
