Description
3/8"–2" Latching Steam Solenoid Valve 200°C – LSA14-50
The CS Fluid Power LSA14-50 Series is a high-temperature 2/2 way latching (bi-stable) brass solenoid valve designed for steam, hot water, air, light oils and compatible gases and fluids. Its magnetic latching operation requires electrical power only during switching, allowing the valve to remain in its selected position without continuous coil power.
Designed for demanding industrial applications, the LSA Series operates with steam pressures from 0.5 to 12 Bar and with air, water and compatible fluids at pressures up to 20 Bar. Port sizes from 3/8" to 2" BSP and large orifices up to 50mm provide a versatile solution for both high-temperature and high-flow applications.
With PTFE seals, stainless steel internals and media temperatures up to +200°C, the LSA14-50 is particularly suited to steam systems where reduced electrical consumption and reduced continuous coil heating are important.
Valve Function & Operation
Function: 2/2 way latching / bi-stable
Operation: Pressure assisted
Minimum pressure differential: 0.5 Bar
The LSA14-50 uses a magnetic latching mechanism that requires only a short electrical pulse to change the valve position. Once switched, the valve remains in its selected position without continuous electrical power.
A reverse-polarity pulse changes the valve back to its opposite state. This significantly reduces electrical consumption and continuous coil heating compared with a conventional continuously energised solenoid valve.
As this is a pressure-assisted design, a minimum 0.5 Bar pressure differential is required for correct operation.
Ports & Connections
Available models:
LSA14 → 3/8" BSP
LSA15 → 1/2" BSP
LSA20 → 3/4" BSP
LSA25 → 1" BSP
LSA35 → 1¼" BSP
LSA40 → 1½" BSP
LSA50 → 2" BSP
Optional thread: NPT
Pressure & Performance
Steam: 0.5 to 12 Bar
Air / Water: 0.5 to 20 Bar
Minimum differential pressure: 0.5 Bar
Maximum fluid viscosity: 50 cSt
Maximum operating pressure depends upon the controlled media and correct valve configuration.
Unlike the direct-acting LADS latching valves, the LSA Series requires differential pressure across the valve to assist operation.
Orifice Sizes
Available orifice sizes according to port size:
3/8" & 1/2" → 15mm
3/4" → 20mm
1" → 25mm
1¼" & 1½" → 35mm
2" → 50mm
The large internal orifices make the LSA Series suitable for applications requiring substantially higher flow rates than miniature direct-acting latching valves.
Construction & Materials
Body: Brass
Internals: Stainless steel
Seals: PTFE
The combination of a robust brass body, stainless steel internal components and PTFE sealing provides the temperature resistance required for demanding steam and hot-fluid applications.
Media Compatibility
Suitable media include:
✓ Steam
✓ Air
✓ Water
✓ Hot water
✓ Light oils
✓ Compatible inert gases
✓ Compatible fluids below 50 cSt
Media must be chemically compatible with the brass body, stainless steel internals and PTFE sealing materials.
Temperature
Maximum media temperature: +200°C
The high-temperature PTFE sealing arrangement makes the LSA Series particularly suitable for steam and other elevated-temperature fluid-control applications.
Coil & Electrical
Coil: WPG2
Power: 18 Watt
Voltage: 12V DC or 24V DC
Connection: DIN 43650A
Coil protection: IP68
Overall protection with connector: IP67
Insulation: Class H
Duty rating: 100%
Approvals: CE, UL & CSA
Supplied with an IP67 LED DIN connector.
Although the coil is rated for continuous duty, the latching valve does not require continuous energisation. Electrical power is required only for the switching pulse.
How Latching Operation Works
The LSA14-50 Series uses a bi-stable magnetic actuator rather than requiring continuous electrical power to maintain the valve position.
Apply a short DC pulse with the correct polarity to switch the valve. Once switched, the magnetic mechanism holds the valve in position after electrical power is removed.
To change the valve back to its opposite state, apply another short pulse with the polarity reversed.
This makes the valve particularly useful in applications where power consumption, heat generation or continuous electrical supply needs to be minimised.
Important: With DC latching valves, it is better to describe this as reversing the positive and negative polarity, rather than swapping “live and neutral”, which is AC terminology.

Why Choose the LSA14-50 Series?
The LSA14-50 combines three characteristics that are not normally found together in a conventional solenoid valve: high-temperature operation, pressures up to 20 Bar and bi-stable switching.
For steam applications, the valve handles temperatures up to +200°C and pressures up to 12 Bar, while air and water applications can operate at up to 20 Bar.
Because power is consumed only when changing valve position, the LSA Series is particularly useful where a conventional continuously energised solenoid valve would generate unnecessary heat or consume power for long periods simply to maintain its operating state.
Ordering Information
Select the valve according to required port size:
LSA14 → 3/8"
LSA15 → 1/2"
LSA20 → 3/4"
LSA25 → 1"
LSA35 → 1¼"
LSA40 → 1½"
LSA50 → 2"
Then select:
✓ 12V DC or 24V DC
✓ BSP or optional NPT thread
