L-Pattern Anti Water Hammer Surge Arrestor – Z-Tide Industrial ALF-C Series
The Z-Tide Industrial ALF-C Series is a premium L-pattern anti water hammer surge arrestor designed to protect water systems against hydraulic shock while providing a compact solution for pipework installed around 90° bends. Combining a pre-charged diaphragm air chamber with a patented flow-directing impeller, the ALF-C Series rapidly absorbs pressure surges while stabilising flow through the pipeline. The compact angle design allows direct installation at pipe corners, reducing installation space and eliminating additional elbows or complex pipework. Available in cast iron with JIS10K flanges from DN50 to DN200, the ALF-C Series provides reliable long-term protection for industrial, municipal and commercial water systems.

Installation recommendations
For optimum protection, install the ALF-C at the first pipe bend immediately downstream of fast-closing valves or pumps.
For pipe runs exceeding 50 metres or systems operating above 5 Bar, a second surge arrestor is recommended at the first bend following the longest straight pipe section.
Maintain a minimum clearance of 100 mm from adjacent walls to allow future servicing and pressure adjustment. Air chamber pressure should normally be maintained between 60% and 90% of the operating pipeline pressure. Where the outlet discharges to atmosphere, such as into a storage tank, a pre-charge pressure of approximately 1.0 to 1.3 Bar is recommended.
Where water hammer occurs
Water hammer commonly develops:
✓ Downstream of check (non-return) valves
✓ At pipeline direction changes
✓ Long horizontal pipe runs exceeding 50 metres
✓ Pump start-up and emergency shutdown
✓ Fast-closing valves and automated control systems
Applications
Pump discharge pipework
Municipal water systems
Industrial process water
Cooling water systems
Irrigation systems
Booster pump stations
Compact plant rooms
Water treatment plants
General industrial water distribution
Manufacturing quality
Manufactured using a heavy-duty cast iron body with a pre-charged diaphragm air chamber and patented flow-directing impeller, the Z-Tide Industrial ALF-C Series has been engineered to provide reliable long-term protection against water hammer and hydraulic shock. Unlike conventional inline surge arrestors, the L-pattern configuration combines pressure absorption with controlled flow redirection, allowing the arrestor to be installed directly at pipeline corners where hydraulic shock is often most severe. The pre-charged diaphragm separates the air cushion from the water supply to maintain consistent long-term performance, while the integrated pressure gauge and Schrader valve allow quick inspection and adjustment of the air chamber. Protected by Patent No. 140580.
