Unlike traditional piston or spring-type surge arrestors, the AIF-D operates on a diaphragm air-cushion principle, providing rapid compensation for sudden pressure spikes caused by pump start/stop or fast-closing valves.

Where Water Hammer Occurs

Water hammer commonly develops:

• Downstream of check (non-return) valves
• In horizontal pipelines exceeding 50 metres
• During pump start-up or sudden shutdown
• In fast-acting valve systems

Installing the AIF-D in-line significantly reduces shock waves, vibration, pipe stress and banging effects, protecting pumps, valves and pipework from long-term fatigue damage.
