Description
Automatic Drip Leg Drain Valve – Shako AD940
Automatic Condensate Drain for Compressed Air Pipework
The Shako AD940 Automatic Drip Leg Drain is designed to automatically remove accumulated water and condensate from compressed air pipelines, helping maintain efficient airflow and protect downstream pneumatic equipment.
Installed at the lowest point of compressed air pipework or at the bottom of a drip leg, the AD940 collects and automatically discharges condensate without requiring routine manual draining.
Its automatic anti-vacuum design opens when the system is depressurised, allowing complete drainage while preventing vacuum formation. During normal pressurised operation, accumulated condensate is automatically discharged as required.
Function & Operation
The AD940 is a fully automatic compressed air condensate drain specifically designed for installation on drip legs and low points within compressed air distribution systems.
Water naturally accumulates at low points as compressed air cools and moisture condenses within the pipeline. If this condensate is not removed, it can be carried downstream into pneumatic equipment.
The AD940 provides automatic drainage, helping prevent accumulated water from remaining within the compressed air system.
Automatic Anti-Vacuum Operation
An important feature of the AD940 is its automatic anti-vacuum design.
When there is no system pressure, the drain opens to allow accumulated liquid to drain freely. This also helps prevent a vacuum from forming within the drain or associated pipework.
When the compressed air system is pressurised, the automatic drain operates when condensate is present, allowing collected moisture to be discharged without routine manual intervention.
Ports & Connections
Standard port sizes:
✓ 1/2" BSP
✓ 3/4" BSP
✓ 1" BSP
Optional connections:
✓ NPT
✓ Rc
The AD940 uses a top-entry connection, making it suitable for mounting vertically beneath compressed air drip legs and pipeline drainage points.
Pressure & Temperature
Operating pressure: 0.5 to 10 Bar
Test pressure: 12 Bar
Operating temperature: -10°C to +60°C
The pressure range makes the AD940 suitable for typical industrial compressed air distribution and pneumatic systems.
Construction & Bowl Options
Standard drain bowl:
Polycarbonate
Optional:
1/2" aluminium bowl
The transparent polycarbonate bowl allows easy visual inspection of collected condensate, while the optional aluminium version is available where a more robust bowl construction is required.
Why Use a Drip Leg Drain?
Water is an unavoidable contaminant in many compressed air installations. As compressed air travels through cooler distribution pipework, water vapour can condense and collect at low points.
Installing automatic drip leg drains at these locations helps:
✓ Remove accumulated condensate
✓ Reduce water carry-over
✓ Protect downstream equipment
✓ Reduce manual maintenance
✓ Improve air system reliability
✓ Keep distribution lines drained
The AD940 provides this drainage automatically, reducing dependence on operators remembering to manually empty drip legs.
Installation
The AD940 should be installed at the lowest point of the compressed air pipe system or beneath a correctly designed drip leg where condensate naturally collects.
The top-entry connection allows accumulated water to enter the drain before being automatically discharged.
Correct positioning is important because the drain relies on condensate being directed towards its installation point.
Typical Applications
✓ Industrial compressed air pipework
✓ Compressed air drip legs
✓ Factory air distribution networks
✓ Compressor installations
✓ Pneumatic automation systems
✓ Manufacturing machinery
✓ Workshop compressed air systems
✓ Process air distribution
✓ Industrial pneumatic equipment
Automatic Condensate Management
Unlike a manual drain valve that depends on periodic operator attention, the AD940 provides automatic condensate removal.
This is particularly useful for remote pipeline locations, busy production environments and compressed air systems where multiple drip legs require regular drainage.
Automatic drainage helps prevent forgotten drain points from filling with water and allowing condensate to migrate further through the compressed air network.
