The Shako PU320 Series is a compact direct acting 3/2 way normally closed solenoid valve designed for reliable control of compressed air, vacuum and compatible inert gases. Available with 1/8" or 1/4" BSP ports, its direct acting design allows operation from zero pressure differential, making it particularly suitable for vacuum, low-pressure and general pneumatic automation applications.

The PU320 can also be converted from 3/2 way to 2/2 way normally closed operation simply by fitting an M5 blanking plug into the exhaust port, providing additional application flexibility without changing the valve.

For multi-valve installations, the modular PU320 design can be assembled into compact manifold systems, with complete factory-assembled manifolds or individual manifold components available.

3/2 to 2/2 Way Conversion

The standard PU320 operates as a 3/2 way normally closed directional control valve.
For applications requiring a conventional 2/2 way normally closed function, the valve can be converted simply by fitting an M5 blanking plug into the exhaust port.
This provides a useful additional function without requiring a different valve body and allows the same PU320 platform to be used across a wider range of pneumatic applications.

Manifold Systems

The PU320 Series is designed for modular stacked manifold assembly, providing a compact solution where several valves are required within the same pneumatic control system.
Complete manifold assemblies are available ready assembled with the required valves, O-rings, mounting bolts and nuts.
Individual valves and manifold assembly kits are also available separately for customers wishing to build or extend their own systems.

Manifold Assembly Guide

Each additional valve requires one additional manifold assembly kit.
This modular arrangement makes it straightforward to expand a pneumatic control system as additional valve stations are required.

Valve Operation

With the solenoid de-energised, the normally closed supply port is closed and the outlet is connected to exhaust.
When the solenoid is energised, the direct acting mechanism opens the supply path to the outlet and closes the exhaust path.
Because operation is direct acting rather than pressure assisted, the PU320 does not require a minimum pressure differential and can operate from 0 Bar.

Vacuum Applications

The zero differential pressure direct acting design makes the PU320 particularly useful for vacuum switching applications where a conventional internally piloted pneumatic solenoid valve may not operate correctly.
Its compact size also makes it suitable for vacuum handling equipment, automation machinery and other installations where space is restricted.

WOW! Well done - that's bloody marvellous. I wasn't expecting a delivery from DPD, so it was quite a surprise to receive your parcel this morning. Thankyou for the clear instructions and your brilliant development work. I have "lashed-up" your control kit and I am delighted to tell you that it works perfectly. That is wonderful news. I certainly wouldn't have been able to work out how to do it, so I am very impressed with your expertise. As you say in your instructions, I will need to play about with the pipework layout and the electrical connections to fit everything into the space. The original white valve had a plastic protective cover, but I doubt that it will be large enough to house your control unit. However, it is no big deal as the unit is mounted under the bonnet, where there is plenty of space (the engine is behind the seats....), so it will probably just require a slightly larger cover? When I have completed the installation, I promise to send you some photos. I have already been in touch with Will Falconer at Matramagic, the UK Matra spares specialist, to give him the good news. He doesn't live too far from you, at Wrington, near Bristol! I have dealt with him for almost 30 years and he is a very pleasant and straightforward chap. He is well known to Matra owners and supplies Matra spares all over the world. As I mentioned, about 10,000 Talbot-Matra Murenas were made between 1980 and 1984 and the survival rate is unusually high as the chassis are hot-dipped galvanised and the body is polyester. In addition, the same white plastic valve was fitted to the preceding model, which was called the Bagheera - although far fewer of these survive. Once I have completed the "development work" , I will pass all the details to Will Falconer. Hopefully you will then start to see some reward for all the help that you have provided? You have obviously incurred some extra expense (the Y connector and the DPD delivery), so if you could calculate the amount that I owe, please, and I will phone later with my debit card details? Dear Mike, Have attached a few pictures of your solenoid valve(s) which are now installed on my Matra Murena. The first picture is of the original set-up, with the white plastic valve. The black "thing" in the second photo is the bracket that I made to attach your valves to the inner wing panel, using the original mounting holes. The last two pictures show your valves in situ, connected and fully operational. As you can see, I have played about with the position of the ports on the two valves to fit them as fairly neatly as I could into the space available and to connect directly to the original pneumatic pipes. The two pipes from the headlight pod operating servo come up through the bottom of the inner wing and into the ports at the bottom of the solenoid valves. The vacuum from the engine inlet manifold is taken from the top, through your Y connector. I have sourced a few additional connectors to help with the installation, which I am sure could be further improved by someone who knew what they were doing! The installation has not required ANY irrevocable modifications to either the car or to the original headlight operating system components. All the original pneumatic pipework is still intact, as are the electrics. It would take less than 5 minutes to swop from the original valve to the new system and vice versa, should you wish to do so. The original solenoid valve was "protected" by a simple moulded black plastic cover. Amazingly, with a little bit of ingenuity and some small brackets (again using the original mounting holes), it should be possible to refit the original cover. That is my next task..... I have forwarded the details and photos to Matramagic, the UK spares specialist. Thankyou again for your help with this development. It certainly wouldn't have been possible without your knowledge, experience and brilliant service. It was very kind to offer yet more components, but I managed to source an 8mm to 6mm T connector on the internet - although it's not as nice as yours.... I couldn't agree more, this sort of development work is good fun, but I think we have probably both had enough of it now! As you can you from the latest set of photos; with your suggestion we have been able to take out TWO more fittings by swapping the Y connector for a T connector. In many respects, we have paired it back to something pretty close to your initial set-up, shown in your first photo? We have just shuffled the solenoid valves around, moved a port and changed a couple of fittings. Easy when you know how? Sadly, your lovely components are now protected behind the original plastic cover, but it is very tempting to make a new cover from Perspex? I think we can now both bask in glory, with a job well done. Thankyou again for all your help and encouragement. I have thoroughly enjoyed the challenge and have learnt lots about solenoid valves.
